How to Access Websites Blocked by ISP’s in India

Recently in view of the FIFA football world cup held in Brazil, the Department of Telecom in India had blocked many websites under an copyright infringement notice filed by Sony entertainment. Due to this an all total of 219 websites were blocked by all the major internet service provider in India that includes BSNL, Airtel, MTNL and many more.

Most of the 219 websites blocked by the Department of telecom in India were file sharing networks that were used to share recorded videos of the FIFA 2014 matches and surprisingly it even included Google drive too.

For a brief period of time, all of the 219 websites and Google drive along with the entire Google docs suite of web apps were inaccessible in India. Now that FIFA 2014 is already over, you should be able to access these 219 websites in India. Unfortunately this is yet to happen.
Given the carefree nature of the Indian government and the ISP’s owned by it. Nobody cares about the problems faced by the average internet user. I have been primarily using BSNL broadband to access the internet and the internet for me seems as if its broken and half of the websites that i visit from search engines never load on my browser.
Apart from these 219 websites that were blocked recently, there were many other websites that were blocked in the past and are yet to be unblocked. Web censorship in India has been increasing rapidly in the recent years and not very far in the future it might even oppress our freedom of expression.
